Hello all,
I just purchased a 2009 Kia Optima. I see online that OEM remote is an option on these cars, but the dealer isn't listing anything yet. Does anyone here have any information on the OEM and how it installs (like plug and play)? I don't mind using aftermarket other than wanting to keep my OEM remote. Thanks for any help.

I don't have any information on the OEM R/S but, you could use an aftermarket R/S operated by multiple remote lock pulses.

Now that sounds like something i'd be interested in. Do you have the brand that would do this?

Most manufacturers have a R/S and/or R/S with K/E product, that has remote activation input. The input can usually be programmed for 2 or 3 lock pulses. However, with a stand alone R/S, once the vehicle is running, most vehicles disable the input from the factory keyless entry remotes. You would have to open the vehicle with the keys. There may be away around this issue. Anyway, a R/S with K/E does not have this issue.

DEI makes good products. I can't say it's the best. That is more or less opinion. If you would like a suggestion for a DEI product, just ask.
Ideal - cmon dude, add to topics in a useful manner, not stuff that is obvious.
Story - Phzzzt! Hey, what happened?! ... Isn't it obvious?
Moral - Never dismiss the obvious.

Ok, what DEI product should I look for to do what I want? Thanks again for all of your help.

  • Is your heart set on using the factory remotes to control the vehicle, that will not give you long range control?
  • Do you realize that aftermarket remotes will give you long range control of the vehicle, an exceptional feature for R/S?
  • Other than your current K/E, do you have a factory OEM alarm?
  • Is the vehicle stick or automatic?

I would like to stick with the factory remotes. I'm not looking for extended range for the remote start. The car does have an OEM alarm, but no immobilizer system (which should help during the install). It is an automatic.

Wow! Easy straight forward install. This is the last question. Are you going to do it yourself? Most manufacturers, accept for a reputable handful, will not  warranty their products; unless sold, installed, and serviced by authorized dealers. If you're willing to take that risk or know someone in the business, you can find dealers who will sell you their products.
