Well I would like to do it myself. I have heard stories about shops in my area making a mess out of things. I know how to solder, so I thought that I could give it a shot.

There is one issue you must understand. When the remote start is active, the factory keyless remotes may not operate. To enter the vehicle, you would have to use the key to unlock the door. There may be a way around this issue but, it's not certain. That being said, are you still wanting to use the factory remotes?

Unless you're absolutely sure, your vehicle and ALL the keys may have a transponder transceiver(immobilizer). If so, it will require an RF bypass component and a trip to the dealer, with ALL the keys, for programming.

I would recommend this component:

I've been reading other posts reguarding factory remotes and R/S and I may use the unlock pulses to start the car. Security really isn't an issue, and if the brake wire is connected, when the brake is pressed the car will die anyway. So I think this way I'd like to go.
Yes, I am 100% sure this car doesn't have the transponder transceiver(immobilizer). None of the USA spec Optima's had this option. Plus, I had my key tested at a local hardware store.
Thanks for you help.

Then I could go ahead and recommend the Valet 561T.

Will the 561T allow me to use the UNLOCK pulse to start the car instead of the LOCK?

Sure, but there maybe a way to trick the K/E into thinking the car is not running. This would allow you to use multiple remote lock pulses to R/S, disarm the factory alarm, and still use the remote unlock to enter the vehicle, while it's running. It depends on the K/E's integration into the vehicle. Somone with that knowledge might help you it.
