I'm having difficulty determining what type locks a 92 grand marquis has. If someone could let me know what type it would be appreciated.

Does it have the keyless entry keypad on the outside of the driver's door?

Does your vehicle have keyless entry?  If it does then they should be straight negative trigger.

If it doesn't, then they are reverse polarity, and look in the relay section of this website to get a diagram on how to wire them properly.

the wires should be located in the DKP and should be

lock ------pink / YELLOW

unlock --------pink/light green

...half of the truth can be worse than a lie. <----Roger Russell said that..

the power window /doorlock  panel only has one clip in it

snap it out and look

one that has factory keyless will only have 3 wires at the switch

At the switch there is the pk/grn, pk/yl, and blk/wht 12v.

The diagram below seems contradictory to what's been stated here. The diagram was taken from the Vehicle Wiring section here.

Door LockPink / YELLOW Behind Glove Compartment w/Keyless w/o Keyless (-)
Door UnlockPink/Light Green Keyless Reverse Polarity

  • robertsc states, "one that has factory keyless will only have 3 wires at the switch" and joch1314 suggests, with keyless entry, this vehicle has 3-wire negative door locks system. The diagram states "Keyless Reverse Polarity".
  • mcscory05 states, "there is no factory keyless entry" and finds a 3-wire positive(blk/wht 12v) door lock system.

It all seems confusing to me.

Ideal - cmon dude, add to topics in a useful manner, not stuff that is obvious.
Story - Phzzzt! Hey, what happened?! ... Isn't it obvious?
Moral - Never dismiss the obvious.

If it has no factory keyless, then it's definitely what we either call "5-wire" or "reversing polarity."
You'll need two relays, and you can follow the diagram on this site, or the one that should come with whatever you're installing.
Some people like to get the wires above the glove box, but I was never able to find them.
I just unfasten the rubber boot that's between the driver's door and the car body, temporarily shove the boot into the door cavity......bring my aftermarket wires out there into the door jamb, make my connections, and put the boot back on.
The only thing there is that because the wires get flexed a lot, you have to be extra careful to make good connections.
When following the diagram, and you're inside the door boot, and you cut the wire in half, the "door" side is equivalent to the "switch" side......and the "body" side is the "motor" side.

that's where another source said to find them but no luck behind the glove box. i tried wiring according to the 5 wire diagram and blew a handful of fuses but i wired in the relays right behind the switch. So i need to catch it after the driver door ? i appreciate all the help. i

wires at the switch will work fine

the reason you were blow the fuses

you probably had the wires at the relays reversed

you need to determine which side of the wire is motor or master switch to determine

which way to wire your relay
