Hi,

I am new here. GREAT site. LOTS of tips.

I need some help with a Checkmate alarm installed by the dealer in a 2001 Kia Sportage convertible. It's a standard keyless entry alarm, nothing fancy. A LONG time ago, my girlfriend had driven it and left the headlights on, killed the battery, and rendered my remote useless. I had disconnected the alarm and SOMEHOW managed to find a site on the web which explained how to re-program the remote after a dead battery in the car. That fixed it. I have since restored my computer (hard drive crash) and lost all my favorites. I cannot, for the life of me, find that site again. I found my original second remote for the alarm that was given to me by the dealer and wanted to get it working again. Doesn't work.

From what I remember, re-programming the remote requires the turning of the key forward a few times, valet mode, and pressing a button on the remote, so it can accept the codes again.

Can ANYONE help me in this procedure? Does ANYONE here know? The dealer is no help, as it was installed aftermarket in the car which was a floor model (despite the fact that it was ALREADY installed in the car when I got it). So much for CUSTOMER SERVICE...lol.

Any help would be a lifesaver. Thanks...

Pete

What's up Pete? I can't believe someone else is actually asking a Checkmate Alarm question! I've had such trouble finding ANY information on these alarms (my friend has this alarm). I finally was able to talk to someone at Honda where the car was bought, who connected me to someone that does the installs...who connected me to another phone number to call...who gave me yet another number for Karnig Devices (I think they make the alarm). When you call, I think the secretary answers. You can tell her you're looking for a manual, or trying to find out how to reprogram. I think they can either fax you a manual, or they can connect you to an installer. (They faxed me a schematic for the alarm...pretty cool). They'll probably ask you what kind of Checkmate, and if you're not sure, they might ask how many buttons and what color LED is on the remote.
Here's the number: 516-747-4265
Good luck. Write back and let us know what happened!
