door lock problem, 96 grand am

First I would check the dorr lock relay......it is under the drivers dash high near the kickpanel.  You could use a meter or even an old fashioned test lite...probe the orange wire and it should show a constant 12 volts...next probe the lite blue wire and push the DL switch to lock and this wire should go to 12 volts...then repeat this procedure on the white wire at the relay but this time push the DL switch to unlock and this wire should go to 12 volts.......if you don't get these readings at the relay then move on to the switch....you can carefully pop it out without removing the whole door panel and you will find the lite blue and white wires...probe these wires and work the switch and see if you get the 12 volts as described above....if you don't get the correct readings at the switch then you need a new switch....my guess is that your switch is bad......if you do get all the readings as described then your next step will be to check your DL actuators and you will have to remove the door panel to do that.....Good Luck
