I just picked up a python 990 dirt cheap, but haven't gotten around to starting the installation yet. I have an 06 Mazda6 V6 with 5spd manual transmission. I was wondering if my vehicle has a neutral safety switch/wire that I could use to prevent starting in gear. I was looking around and saw all the posts about the DEI 689M, but it doesn't seem like it's a very available part (I found a seller on amazon that had it listed for $65). I'd like to avoid magnetic switchs if possible because I've heard a few people tell me about them being unreliable, etc.

So basically, to sum it up, does my car have a NS switch/wire, if so where/what color/etc, and if not is the 689m my best option? I really don't want to install it with no safety of any kind.

You need either the DEI689M or the Peripheral NSS

Stay away from magnets.

Thanks.

Just to follow up real quick, if I'm reading the instructions for the 689M correctly, to simplify the steps to enter ready mode all I do is, when I park the car and put the ebrake on, leave the engine running, and before I get out hit the remote start on the fob, then get out and close the door? Then it's good until one of the triggers such as door pin or whatever makes it exit ready mode? I'm assuming that if it's currently running from being remote started that opening the door does not kill the engine?

That's correct. If you do the ready-mode with a door open then you need to stop the engine via the remote after you get out and close the door.

If you do the ready-mode with a door closed then the engine will shut down automatically after you get out and close the door.

If a door is opened then it exits ready-mode unless you remote started first.
