My highs has 2x25 fuses(50) and my bass amp has 3x25 (75) Should i get a 125,150,or 200 anl fuse because currently I am using an awg 80 amp but i would like to know which fuse to buy.

Are you blowing the 80? What size is your wire?

I would think an 80 would be OK, if it's not I would go with a 125 (assuming the wire you are using can support 125A without catching on fire).

Some people say you should fuse the wire to the maximum current the wire can carry, but I always recomend you fuse the wire for the intended load - the fuse will react quicker and there will be less chance for damage to the car's electrical system in the event of a direct short. The downside is there is some research involved and sometimes some trial and error.

You can definately NOT go above 150A for 4ga. Are you blowing the 80A fuse?

No im not blowing it but when my bass hits hard my voltage drops and I have a red top should I invest in a high output alternator

What would using a fuse with a higher current rating do for you? It won't magically make power.

The fuse is soley for protection - it doesn't limit current (well, actually it does, but only once).

If you don't have enough power you need to start with the "big 3" and if that doesn't help you need to look in to a larger alternator.

If you are using an AGU fuse and you have it inside of one of the many decorative, sealed up fuse holders, it will eventually give you problems. The problem with that setup is that the pretty fuse holder does not let any heat escape from the fuse. Pulling 50 amps of current through that fuse for any amount of time will cause the solder to melt off of the endcap of the fuse. If you are asking about the ANL fuse holder, you must already want it. I would reccomend switching to it. As stated above, no larger than a 150 amp fuse on a 4 Ga. wire.
