How trust worthy is eBay?

I know in my last post I said I wasn't to comfortable buying items off of eBay but I came across this guy who had a great deal on an amp I was looking at. Anyway he has an eBay store and I wanted to know if anyone here has every brought anything from him. I don't know that one in particular, but I've done some inqueries on some of the other Sebay stores, mainly to figure out how they are getting away with selling the stuff so cheap! I've seen results ranging from... Factory Refurbished (but not listed as such), damaged packaging, and "We buy and sell in bulk, that's why we can sell at such a low cost". Bottom line is, if you buy from ebay be careful. Alot (ok, just about every single ebay store) are not authorized resellers. Most claim to have their own return/repair policy, since factory warrenties are only good when purchased from authorized resellers. You're still taking a risk. I've been debating with the same type of question for a while now myself. I want to upgrade my system with either a new RF 1000bd and 2 RFD2112's, or another 500bd and 2 RFD2212's. If I go authorized, I'm looking at over a grand, if I go ebay, I'm looking around 500. That's a pretty big difference! I'm still leary about ebay because I run my system hard, currently a 500bd and 2 RFP3412's. I trust Rockford to replace/repair my gear if it breaks, but I just can't bring myself to trust someone not with the manufactures yet. Not to mention, alot of the hard working professionals in this forum would be out of work due to lack of sales!Squirrel

I feel the same way, even though your getting a product that in some instances 50% less than what any authorized retail store would charge you your still up sh*t creek when it comes to performace issues and you have to have your equipment repaired. I just don't want to to wine up spending $300 on a DEI amp from ebay, it works for like a month then Boom it blows up because of some defect and then I'm stuck pay for the repair(cause I didn't by from the authorized dealer) and not to mention shipping and insurance. By the time I'm done with that I would have paid the original cost that the retail store was offering and then some. Just my $.02 on the matterlive & die 4 tha luv of BASS!!!!

I didn't want to jump on this but I had to say my piece......... coming from an installer's point of view, if someone bought an item off eBay ( or just about anything not from my shop ) and asked me to install it, I give them fair warning that if it doesn't work, it's not my fault. Chances are the eBayer who sells the stuff will automatically blame the installer for a poor installation or improper installation before he/she would claim that it was the product.Jeff

I have purchased from ebay and I have sold on ebay...I ALWAYS list my for sale items as warrantied IF they are installed by an MECP certified installer... you do have to watch out when looking at items where warranty may apply...I see alot of people claiming warranties that I know arent factory authorized...look at the feedback given and base your decision on that...I know people that sell things on ebay all the time, and havent had any problems...on the flip side I know people who got screwed the first time they signed up... if I were buying something that I would want warranty on, I would probably purchase locally, from a store that I knew would honor the warranty...if you dont get your warranty honored on ebay, your almost only recourse is to leave negative feedback...and that doesnt leave me with alot of peace of mind...

It really depends on the seller too. Like someone else said, most carry there own 1 year warranty. I've purchased pretty much my entire system (amps, HU, wire) from shops on eBay or from them directly after having a good experience on eBay. I mean if you buy a $400 amp for $240 from a reputible company that will offer there own 1 year warranty how can you really pass it up. Just check there feedback and make sure they have a good amount of positives with very little negatives. My rule of thumb is at 98% positive, and I also read through the last month or sos negatives to make sure its not buyer ignorance. I can't believe how much negative feedback is left because someones email provider doesnt work right and they figure its the sellers fault. As usualy common sense allpies. Allan. P.S. So far I have bought the following for my system on eBay or directly from company's I found on eBay: Alpine CDA-7893, Alpine MRD-M300, Alpine MRV-F340, Infinity 65.3i (2 pairs), and some amps kits. I also bought a set of Infinity 60.3 components that went bad after three months but they were sold as used and repaired in the auction so I gambled and lost on this one. All other stuff was sold as new.

Personally, I'm with Jeff on this one. I've seen it first hand when someone buys a "new" amp or subs or whatever on eBay and we install it at my shop. When it goes bad a month or three later, we inevitably get the call blaming us for a poor install or faulty craftsmanship. I've had people buy 7 year old RF or JL amps off eBay and they still are rock solid, but I've also had people buy "new" or "factory packaged" amps off there and they smoke out a month later. I know how enticing the prices can be on eBay. (Do I ever) I never buy anything from eBay myself, but in my experiences with hundreds of customers who have, I would strongly caution against it. As far as getting what you bid on look at there feedback if they have excellent feedback there is no worry about getting the item,you will get it no worry there . Look real carefully at  there feedback see what other people say about them this is your best bet. I buy and sell on e-bay almost everday with very few problems.Thanks,Rick Phillips

i have recently bought off of ebay and had no problems. i dealt with a company called cmt trading post. there user id on ebay is judysdeals.com. check them out. i got a 7" widescreen pyle i believe the part number is a plvm700. i think. i paid 180 shipped from california to georgia. the tv retails on pyle's website for 420. very fast shipping. ups tracking numbers and all. the said it was going to arrive on the 27th and it sure did. check them out. very reliable.
