It is either your amp, radio or your interconnect cables, or a bad connection.   It is not your EQ.

Exactly the point I try to tell my local friends.  They can't understand why, if my deck has all those fancy HPF and LPF and crossovers, I would buy a crossover to mount in the trunk.  Simple, and you answered what I've tried to tell them.  Even though the deck has its own built-in crossovers, they are pretty much preset.  Sure, your can also adjust the levels of each, but the crossover is so much easier to adjust.  And you can adjust it in tighter areas rather than bypassing what Kenwood thinks you don't need.  I've had several passive EQ's over the years but this is my first crossover that I'm mounting to my amp rack.

I'm sure if I have any questions about the adjustments I'll be able to get them answered in the forum.  The owner's manual shows how to do a few things, but the fine tuning might be tricky until I get used to it.  I started to buy one of those Audio Control EQ's (the L, S, or X models) but one look scared me out of my wits.  I don't know any local brain surgeons or rocket scientists who could help me adjust all those knobs!

So I settled on this... (from past recommendations and the length of time they have been around):
