I was wondering has anyone seen a dual alternator setup on a transverse engine. Also. Did it require a lot modifcation to the top of the engine block. Also when the alternators die they go. If you have a dual setup do they all die at once or just one goes.

they wont both die at the same time.... my advise to u is for now run most of ur main generative components with the bottom alternator and run most of the accy stuff on the top one.    everything thats runs constantly on the bottom and the most powerful... im pretty sure it could be done but yes u are prolly gonna have to fab up a mounting bracket for it. what is the vehicle that it goin in? and why?

Its for a 1986 cadillac sedan deville and the reasoning for it .. like the famous tim the tool man would say" more power ha ha ha". Yea I don't use my ac so why not have the extra power there

so it has a 4.9-4.5motor? fwd? or the 4.1.  the only way ive seen what you are talking about is to have custom made brackets made and you lose your ac. the entire ac has to go period. the other alt would go where the ac used to be. you would also have to have custom made belt made or find one that fits etc. if this is a 1 belt system which i think it is. the belt tension system would prob have to be modded also for a higher pound pull etc. bottom line yes it can be done. and yes ive seen it done. i saw it done on 1993 sedan deville with a 4.9 fwd car. he ran the stock 140 amp alt and a i blv a 300 amp alt for his system. hope this helps.

I guess you mis understood what I ment, of couse the full ac unit has to go and I don't thonk I'm going to go with a special belt. It gonna be a pain to replace it when it breaks so I'm going to make some brackets from the orignal mounts from the ac location and drop the biggest alt I can get in there. The only thing is to get it in there at the right spot so the tenison on the belt is the same. And the ac is on the bottom and it is 4.1 transverse engine
