viper trunk release keeps popping fuse

I have a Viper 5901 on an 09 Corolla. Alarm, doors, sensors, remote start all work perfect. One major problem though...When I press the trunk release, the main fuse (12V supplying Viper unit and sensors) keeps popping. I have gone through 6 fuses now (used 15A, 20A & 30A-all popped!!!). Trunk relay connections: 30 --- Output to trunk release wire (pink at driver's kick) 85 --- Viper trunk release wire (RED / white) 86 --- Fused +12V 87 --- Fused +12V input (trunk release is (+) polarity) 87a---Not used. When I press trunk release on remote with pin 30 NOT connected to car, remote shows trunk release and passes 12V to pin 30. However, when I connect pin 30 to trunk release wire, fuse on 12V wire pops. Just don't get it.... I have also tried connecting GND to pin 87, but trunk release doesn't work (wanted to confirm (+) trunk polarity). Your input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I have no idea what your problem is, but DO NOT try a larger fuse.

Yup, I'll stick with 15A fuses.

It shouldn't matter if I use pin 30 or pin 87 interchangeably...or should it?

Did it pop first time it was used...Are you sure it is + trigger ...Black to ground...Red to pink wire in DKP...then pressed trunk-pop when you tested the wire...It showed 12v...?M.E.C.P & First-Class

It popped the very first time I tried to use it. I did probe the car trunk release and it showed 12V when I opened trunk using factory key. I also placed an LED on the car's trunk release wire, and grounded the other LED terminal; the LED lit up when trunk opened. Maybe I have the wrong wire! But according to the DEI wiring reference for 09 Corolla, trunk release wire is PINK at dkp...

30 and 87 are interchangeable when using the relay as a Single pole single throw device. If you were using it as a Single pole double throw device, 30 is the common connection. 30 is connected to either 87 or 87A, depending on the state of the relay, energized, or at rest.

Don't know whether I'm being silly or not thinking here but hows about a diode across 85 and 86, also never known a trunk release solenoid  to pull more than 12amps.  Also, could one have a faulty relay, know it's unlikely, also use a power supply for that relay separate to the alarm's, then you won't blow the main fuse each time, also try wiring the relay like this:- 85, 86 and 87 as before,  wire from DKP to 87a, wire to trunk release from 30.

Do not have an external power supply, but your idea (Howie II) to isolate the car's trunk release wire through the relay 87a (like IGN 2) just might work. I'll keep you posted. Thank you all for the input.
