It's all about compromise. The w0's will in most cases be louder, but they will require a huge enclosure (probably 4 times the size) and won't be as clean sounding. If all you care about is output, then get the w0's.

Any particular reason that you are only considering JL?

I wouldn't under estimate the 12wo series. I had a pair(original 12w0) for a short while in a sealed box and was amazed at how well they sounded. Never bottomed out and never held back from putting out very loud clean bass.

I ran about 350watts a sub off a Crossfire 1000D at 2ohms and was very impressed.

What are you going for in sound? Loud, clean or both? The 4-12s would require more air space sealed or ported but will still be louder then the 12w7 with out requiring as much power. The w7 has a larger surround and larger x-max but needs a lot of power to take full advantage of that.

If you take 1000watts to the 4-12w0s(250 per sub) or 1000w to the one 12w7 both in the same style enclosure(sealed or ported) the 4-12s will be louder.

If you are going for a good clean sound and have the room do the 4-12s  If you want to take up less space and still be clean I would do the 12w6 or the 13w6. It's a very great sq sub. It was designed more for sq, the w7 wasn't.  I had a 13w6 in a 3cubic foot ported enclosure running off a 1000/1 and it sounded incredible. Plenty of bass to get loud with and very smooth and easy to blend for sq as well.

It's always best to listen for yourself. See if the w7 is worth the hype. Comapre it in sound and price to the w6 and the w0's see which you think is better.

Just do something

If you can fit the box, the 4-12's is the way to go if you want loud. Its so much more cone area and you'll be using the same amount of power just shared. I've always liked the more is better way of doing things even if its not quite as efficient. Do it you won't be dissapointed.
