Thanks I will try this. just to be sure this wire will show ground when the switch is on? how do I test this wire?(just for my education)

use a DMM (digital multi meter) you can find this at radio shack, wal mart, sears, etc. Set it to test for 12v DC, have your red lead on a 12v source such as the battery, fuse box cigarette lighter socket, or ignition harness, pretty much anything with 12v present.. probe the wire in question with the black wire, it should show less than a volt or so with the lights off. when you turn the lights on, a negative ground signal should be sent out through this wire to trigger the lights and thus completing the meter's circuit, showing you 12v when the lights are on.
