Hey All:

I put a set of HID's on my Fusion this evening. Everything works great, however my info screen on the gauge cluster keeps telling me every 10 minutes to check right/left headlamp.

I figured that the only way it could tell that a bulb is having issues has to deal with the OEM bulbs resistance. I figured I just throw a resistor on each plug and fix the problem.

Does anyone know if this will work correctly, and what resistance I should use?

The best thing to do is measure the resistance of the bulbs you took out. You can then calculate the power rating of the resistor by calculating how much current the resistor will pull (Current = voltage/resistance - assume a voltage of at least 14.4) and then multiplying the current by the voltage and then doubling that number.

So, say you have a 10 ohm bulb that would draw 14.4/10 = 1.44A which is equal to 1.44A*14.4 = 20.736 watts so I would use at least a 40 watt resistor. Even if you get a big enough resistor it will still get hot, so keep that in mind when you mount it.

If you get lucky, the watt rating of the stock bulb may be published either on the bulb or in the owners manual - if so you can double that rating and use it to determine the proper wattage of the resistor.
