i have an eclipse dvd (av8132) jl audio amps 500.1 and 300.4 jl audio speakers xr653 (2 sets which add up to four 6 1/2s four 4s and 4 tweeters, two rockford fosgate 10's power series installed in a 1991 honda prelude with the 10's in the trunk box facing outwards. half of the other speakers are mounted above the back seat facing up toward the back window the other half are mounting on a peice of wood sitting on the back seat for right now. when i turn certain songs on 3 doors down for example when you turn it up the bass sounds separated from everything else and its vibrating bass and it doesn't sound right. Other songs where the bass should be tight and hard hitting it doesn't. so where should my amp settings approximately be. I also have a jl audio 300.2 which isn't installed right now. The system was put in in a hurry and i am not even sure if its hooked up the right way.

Disconnect one of the woofers.  If the bass increases or sounds better, reverse the wires on that one woofer.

I second that, it may be out of phase. My subs sounded like it was a second or so behind the rest of the music. I switched the phase setting on my HU to reverse and it corrected it.

If your radio has a phase adjustment, this will not fix your problem as it did for that floor guy.  The only way you can do this is to disconnect one of the speakers.  If the sound gets better, reverse the wires of only that speaker.
