Install a ground loop eliminator between the DVD and the FM modulator.

You say you connected the speaker wires of the DVD.  How did you do that?   What kind of ground loop eliminator did you use?

Overhead DVD's have speaker cables? I've only had ones that have RCA's. And the best way to get sound through the entire vehicle is FM direct IMO. Or wireless headphones.
