I've purchased a Sony HU and a wired remote for installation in my boat.  I've installed the HU and the remote and I'm in the process of snaking the Unilink cable between the two.  The cable that comes with the remote is 5m long.  That's too short by about 2m.  I've looked everywhere trying to find longer Unilink cables or extensions with no luck.  The connectors are proprietary (and discontinued to boot!) so I can't make up my own longer cable or extension.  The next step is to splice 2 meters of cable into the existing one.  I've cut the cable, so now its "damn the torpedos, full speed ahead".  I've ordered some 8-wire shielded cable (from Israel of all places!) and am waiting for that.  Will it work?  Will I finally gain (remote) control of my audio boating environment?  Stay tuned for the next exciting installment.

In the meantime, if anyone has had similar experience with splicing a 8-conductor shielded cable, please let me know how it turned out.  They're very small wires (24 gauge?) and the shield will be different (braided to foil).

Just a followup.  The splicing job worked just fine.
