My maxima won't start. Wont crank or click. I have check and found I am not getting any power to the starter. I think the problem is the anti-theft. Per the owners manual if I turn the key in the on position an and the security lite stays on there is a malfunction with the anti-theft. So my question is can I disable the anti-theft I don't need it or wont it so is there a way to circumvent? Thankyou and any ideas or possible fix would be helpful

it is possible but alot of work is involved and of course you would have to find someone who knows their stuff! have you tried using the other keys that came with the car?

If your other keys don't work it's a tow to a Nissan dealer and a key reprogramming job via their computers. Don't attempt a by-pass, the factory unit also controls the engine management.  Just a thought, shouldn't it still crank? Check battery.

Yes check your battery, i know our local transponders hamper the fuel system howie, but i wasn't sure if it's the same in the U.S. so i didn't really make too much mention of if it should still crank or not.

Very briefly, and Chris Wallace wrote the definitive post on this (See the security section) but Euro type transponders were first OEM fitted in German sourced vehicles in about 93, E36, Golf Mk lll etc, etc. Their function was to work via a passive RFI chip buried in the key. They allowed the starter to crank but stopped the engine management via a data link.  Nowadays virtually all manufacturers use the same system from 97 when obligatory for all cars for the European markets, to the last adopters, Japan and the USA from about 01 on. Thus even if key chip failed, you should get some crank on starting hence my flat battery comments. t&t are you aware of "Occams Razor" or "KISS" ?*  Always look at the battery and ALL the fuses first. I would also check all the leads on the ignition switch. (12v+ in and out, it's very accessible, just undo the steering column cowl)

* The simple solution is usually correct.

Occam's Razor...

It's to the effect of  "when all things are considered, the simplest solution is usually the one that's correct".  Meaning that the OP's problem is proabaly the battery and has nothing to do with the transponder.

KISS....i think that stands For "keep it short and simple".  Is that correct Howie?

...half of the truth can be worse than a lie. <----Roger Russell said that..

Howie,

I think you could be right but its not the battery or the fuses, you are correct in saying that the engine should crank, I found that out today from a Nissan dealer Mech. Turns out if you rule the battery out that there are only 2 other things to consider, the relay and the park neutral switch. Not saying that has fixed the problem because neither has been tested but I will post what I find as soon as my Max is fixed.

More important,  how do I get that byeline underneath, I've been laughingly? lovingly? following the crystal ball saga and it's great.

Occam was a Dutch philosopher, the version I heard was KEEP IT SIMPLE, STUPID attributed to the founder of MacDonalds, though I prefer joch1314's version.
