I notice when most people build their boxes with slot ports they run the port the length of the side of the box that the port is on.

Would there be any problem putting a rectangular slot port in the middle of the box and not spanning the entire length of the box. I'm asking this quest because if I was to do wall to wall port it would be 48x2" (way over a 8 to 1 ratio) and I would think its better to do say a 16x6" in the middle. Would this work ok??
