Do I need an extra battery in the trunk if I have a 220 mechman alt and an optima yellow top starting battery. the only 2 amps I have is a kicker 1500 and a crunch 1400. The car is 2001 mercury grand marquis.

You do no need an extra battery unless you want to listen to the radio for long periods of time with the car off.

should be no need for a second battery as long as you have a good alternator and a good battery. I would also upgrade the "big three"
