Good afternoon,

I have a 2006 Chevy Silverado, with a Duramax diesel and will be installing a Viper 5301 remote start/keyless entry combo.  The last RS that I installed was a Code Alarm two-way in a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500, with a Cummins diesel.

I've purchased the XK01 and have firmware AMDL 6.00 on it, and T-harness (I believe from Bulldog).  I'm a little bit confused about what needs to be hooked up to truck, with the exception of the heavy gauge RS harness.  Below is a feature listing that the XK01 advertises for this firmware:

  • D2D

If I used the XK01 in D2D configuration, do I still need a tach wire?  Will I still need to hook up the horn wire to the BCM?  Does anyone have experience with the driver's priority unlock, heated seats, or heated mirrors on this model vehicle?

Also, is the XK01 supposed to come with the D2D cable?  I did not receive one.  Where can I go to pick one up?

Sorry, this XK thing is still new to me.  Can an install really be this easy?

Thanks

Well,

I'm going to try to find a D2D cable tonight.  Hopefully Best Buy has one.  I suppose I will approach this install like the one in my old Dodge:

How do you handle the second accessory (brown) wire on this truck?

So far, I have the following:

Harness H3 - Ignition Harness

Viper 5301 - 2006 Silverado

Pink - Pink

RED / Wht - Red (+12V #1)

Orange - Orange

Violet - Yellow

Red - Red (+12V #1)

Pink/Wht - White

Pink/Blk - Not Used (Should this feed the Brown 2nd Accessory?)

RED / Blk - Red (+12V #2)

Actually,

I still need to change to W2W from D2D.  I have not been driving the truck very often, as the weather is still nice enough to drive the car.

So far what I have noticed is that the truck will have a dead battery in ~2 days.  Everything works, but throws a "Service Brake System" message every time it is remote started.  I contacted DEI and Bypasskits (one and the same now, I believe).  They told me to "direct wire" the bypass.  To me this was irritating.  Why would you offer something for sale that you know does not work?  One of the selling points was the simplified installation offered by D2D.  And where is the support?  In my humble opinion, telling a customer to ditch the only positive part of the product (D2D hookup) in order to make it work is not acceptable.  W-T-F DEI?

So, hopefully, going to W2W will solve the battery issue.  I guess I'm pretty fortunate to have a few other vehicles to choose from while I sort this out.

In the future, however, I will not be buying DEI products.  Nor will I be recommending them.

Good luck with your RS install.

UPDATE:

I have wired the XK01 directly (wire to wire).  I have not had enough time to verify that the battery draw is gone, but now nothing works.

So far I have experienced the following:

Remote start does not work... truck starts and shuts down ~3 seconds later.

Door locks do not work at all.

I'm really stumped.  Based on the advice of the people who built the bypass, I have direct wired the bypass.  Now nothing works.  The bypass might as well not be there.

I could really use some help here, as I have no idea where to turn next.

Thank you.

Something that may be of interest:

When the bypass was hooked up D2D, the heated seats would operate randomly.  One morning it was -20 degrees fahrenheit, so the seats should definitely have turned on.  I also noted that they turned on one day after driving for about 10 minutes.

So, since the XK01 is not working at all, what could I have missed while wiring it up?

I have the following:

XK01                                                      -               5301

Brown (GWR)                                                    Relay Out / Blue (RS Status)

Green (Lock)                                        -               Door Lock/Unlock / Green (-Lock/+Unlock)

Blue (Unlock)                                       -               Door Lock/Unlock / Blue (-Unlock/+Lock)

Violet/White (Door Sense Trigger)   -               H1 / Green (- Door Input)

Violet (Data)                                         -               Vehicle OBD-II

Pink/White (Aux 2)                               -               H2 / Violet/Black (Aux 2)

Pink (Aux 1)                                          -               H2 / Violet/White (Aux 1)

Orange (Trunk or Disarm Input)       -               Not Used

Red (+12V)                                           -               Ignition Harness (+12V)

Black (Ground)                                     -               Chassis (Ground)

Any and all help would be most greatly appreciated.

Thank you.
