Hello i currently have two alpine type r's 4 ohm. Recently they had not been sounding right so i pulled them out of the box and put a voltmeter on em to see what i get back. I am gettin a reading of 8 which i dont think it right. Could someone please help me out with my problem.

8 what? If it's ohms you're reffering to, according to how the speakers are wired, if it is wired that reading could be right! Are they dual or single voice coil speakers?

funny thing because my type r`s just got shakey on me too. had them hooked up in series and now only one works when wired in series and the other needs to be in parallel to work...anyway i dont think its blown type r`s almost always generate a lot of smoke and smell when blown. trust me ive blown 1 10 and 2 12s. did you smell the voice coils burning at all? did you properly break them in?

You don't have to break them in. Subs will work fine at full volume right out of the box as long as you don't exceed it's thermal or mechanical limits.

Army, the woofer that does not play when ran in series, has an open voice coil.

huh...open voice coil? how did that happen? i need to learn more before i post. i was always under the assumption that a woofer needed to be broken in before it was played with full rms power.

dual hooked up in a series. I plugged the voltmeter to them and it kept reading 8ohms. I pulled them outta the box and connected them and they make sound but it sounds real distorted. When i push my hand on the sub lightly the distortion tends to tone down a bit but it does not sound the way it use to.

I have had these subs for over a year now. and they just recently started to sound like crap
