linear actuators

I'm thinking about replacing the gas lifts on my corrado trunk lid with linear actuators.  The way I see it, I'd need some sort of switch to unlatch the the trunk and raise the actuators.  Has anyone ever done this?  And would a single one work or would i need one on each side?  TIA.-Matt

I have not personally seen a trunk lid be motorized, however I have seen much more confisticated things done with actuators. Anything can be done, with the right about of work, money and time involved. I do think that you will need some sort of door actuator to unlock the trunk, with a switch/button for it, as well as the linear actuators to open the trunk. You may be able to use a single actuator to lift the trunk lid, that depends on the weight it can handle. The thing that is probably going to be more difficult, is just mounting the actuator, so that the trunk lid still moves in the same way it does now. You will also need to check into the length the linear actuator can extend to be. You will need to make sure that it can open the trunk as far as you want it to be opened. you may want to take into consideration the very high price of linear actuators...when they are cheap they are around $200, but when you want longer or stronger actuators, be prepared to break out the cheque book, cuz they arent cheap...
