1st question... To remote start...  Can the alarm be armed?

2nd question...  Under remote start...    Does it unlock the door? I thought I was going to conncet  the door locks to the factory arm/disarm wires. Can I use the other lock / unlock wires so my doors won't unlock under remote start? I didn't see any way to choose pulse polarity for the door lock wires in the manual. They just say - +.

Thanks in advance for any insight.  I'm a total newbie here.

Don't understand the first Q, but here's the answer to the second. You are not going to connect the lock wires to arm/disarm but to lock/unlock. The first pulse will unlock the drivers door only and disarm at the same time. A second pulse would unlock the other doors. To disarm a factory alarm on this truck for it to remote start you need to connect the keysense wire to your staus output wire(ground during RS). Do it this way and the doors remain locked during RS.

As for your polarity Q, there is no setting for the pulse polarity. How it works is everytime you press lock the lock wire on the RS will pulse a ground and at the same time the unlock will pulse a positive. Don't woory about this at all and simply wire the lock wires as a negative to the lock wires in the truck.

1. Yes, at least if installed properly. You can arm the Viper alarm, go to bed or whatever, and remote start the truck whenever you want.
2. I've never seen a Tacoma with a factory-installed alarm. (There is a relatively rare dealer-installed Toyota VIP alarm.)
The "factory disarm" and "factory arm" wires from the Viper don't need to be connected to anything.
The Viper's green lock wire should be connected to the Toyota's wire that locks all the doors.
The Viper's blue unlock wire should be connected to the Toyota's wire that unlocks the driver's door only on the first pulse, and then the second pulse unlocks all doors.
If you prefer all doors to open on the first press of your Viper remote, go into programming and select "double pulse unlock" or whatever it is called.
If you prefer to open only the driver's door on the first press of the Viper remote, and then all the other doors on the second press.......somewhere the Viper has a "second unlock" output, I just forget their exact name for it. Anyway, you just connect that to the exact same wire in the car where you already connected the blue wire. (Might have to turn on 2-step unlock in Viper programming, not sure.)
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Even though your Tacoma almost certainly doesn't have a factory alarm, you'll see that some tech sheets list four separate wires.......lock, unlock, factory alarm, factory disarm.
Regardless, the lock wires you want are the ones that test as ground when turning the key in the driver's door from the outside.
If you find wires that make a ground while operating the rocker switch on the interior door panel, don't use them. They will work most of the time, but not always.

Many thanks to you guys! Wow I really appreciate it. Been coming to this site for years, but never posted a question.

Tacoma door locks:

Use + - pulse wires from the door lock hook up wires on the viper 5701.  Don't use factory arm disarm wires.

Got it!

Thanks,

B
