I race a highly modified midget in England . It currently has a loom with mis-matched wires (colour wise) and a lot of what looks like redundant wiring. It has fuses and no relays. I want to simplify the whole thing and reduce the wiring - do i need relays (and fuses). A single dry cell powers the following - lights, wipers, starter motor, fuel pump,radiator fan and thats pretty much it. Any suggestions gratefully received. Flipper

You should have a fuse or fuses. The alternative is usually fire. If only one fuse, if it blows everything dies. Relays are only needed to avoid voltage drops (eg to headlights) or to minimise heavy wiring through switches (headlights, starter, wipers. I assume it's a total loss system (no alternator) with CDI?

Thats correct it has no alternator , our races are relatively short and on a strong battery, even with the inevitable rain, its enough. Ill keep the fuses and appreciate the steer on that .
