6x9 mounting opinions

just wanted to get some of your opinions as to whether i should mount some 6x9 speakers in speaker boxes or mount them as  free air.  now these will be going in a four winns boat and they will be used for midbass to the top end of the listening spectrum

I think thats something you would have to play around with. At least I would. Free air Im sure would be better sq because of standing waves at the freqs it will be reproducing not coming through the speaker. But running in an enclosure I bet would be louder. Just a guess on my part though.

I Agree with Mr. Reed. You could put them in an odd shaped fiberglass enclosure to get more output And get rid of some of the standing waves..

yeah i was thinking about that later on last night. Even just adding a little bit of angle to the face should eliminate most of that possibility.
