07 kia rio transponder?

Does anyone know if this car has a transponder .The customer claims it does not and from experience a lot of base models do not have it.This car is plain,no power locks or convenience package. Thanks Bruce

That's kinda tricky to ask, because a model of vehicle from a manufacturer can vary according to specs that they may have altered or just plain changed! and being that we can't see the vehicle in question, you may get conflicting answers! Best bet would be to take a look at the vehicle personally!commit your way to jehovah and he will act in your behalf. psalms 37:5

Wrap the key really good in tin foil to block the transponder signal and try to start the car, if it doesn't start then you know you got transponder. My '06 Impreza I was pretty sure would have transponder and the dealer plugged in scan tool to program my bypass chip from iDatalink and it told him there was no transponder. Later I found this way to test for transponder.

That trick also works great when programming transponder boxes that require all the factory keys and then need the ignition cycled to program the box's transponder just wrap the key for that cycle instead of doing an ignition jumper. Safer and easier.

I've also found that testing for factory alarm by locking and then opening door from inside through open window can be handy to find if there is something that will have to be worked with.I'm also starting to amperage draw test all vehicles coming in so that I know that I hooked stuff up right but also know that if a customer complains then you've tested ahead of time.

Turns out it is a 2007 rio 5 no power acc and it does have a transponder.I dont like the key in a box for newer vehicles and cant find anything easy for the kia's.A dealer scan tool is needed to program the few modules available Bruce

I'm with t&t here ref hot wiring, but remove ignition key to about 5' away from vehicle and wait for two minutes, also how's about dropping the cowling to see if there's an antenna around the ignition key receptacle?

after 02, the kias in canada all had the immobilizer put in. If anything, like T&T said, just power up ignitions/accs and use a jumper wire for the starter. If it starts then no bypass needed. But im sure after 02 they all came with the transponders.

Just to further rub this in, Canada demanded immobilisers earlier than Japan and the US, Australia/NZ require 3 cut points and Europe went by 1/1/97 although the German manufacturers were fitting them from 93. Which is why we can't give hard info on this. Just look at the latest Civic, then go to Honda UK's website, look at the interiors, they're completely different. Darren, ignorance is bliss? Not in this game, it can be bloody expensive.
