I'm trying to wire an lcd and dvd myself and don't understand how to wire the green safety wire for the lcd.  I have a Kenwood LZ-701W screen and would like to bypass the safety wire.  The green wire has a raw end and in the instructions it looks like it is supposed to go to a +12V after the parking break?  I'd really like to bypass it and have read that some you can just ground, some need a switch, special chip etc.  Can anyone tell how to easily bypass this?  Thanks in advance.  Here's a link to the manual: http://www.kenwoodusa.com/support/manual.jsp?divisionId=3&productid=696

Most Video units/screens have those as a safty feature, i believe shops ( by law) have to hook those up if the lcd is in the frnt of the car/truck. In most cases its either a 12v+ or a ground and the parking brake itself is the switch. just find out what the wire's input needs to be either hot or ground( from the diagram it apears to be a 12v+) and hook it up so its constant. you could put it on a switch if you wanted as a extra means of power control or safety.  what ever that wire requires, either positive or ground, just hook it up to one of those as a constant, bypassing the parking brake ( as a switch).  To be honest, im not sure if different vehicles have different parking sensor wire polarities, in this case it really dosnt matter.

Are you postitive I can just ground it?  In the diagram I posted above it says the green goes to the parking brake and +12v.  I dont' want to fry anything... thanks

If you want to be extra careful, test the parking sensor wire in the car with a DMM,  note what it tests when the brake is both disengaged and engaged. what ever it test for when the brake is ingaged, would be safe to send to that wire.  Usuially it is a ground, why it says a 12v+ in the diagram i do not know.  You could always contact kenwood and ask them also.

I forgot that in my last post you were bypassing the parking brake. my bad. it does appear that it requires a 12v positive. usuially its a ground in most cars, so i guess a relay would be needed to reverse the polarity... anyway,  ide double check with kenwood, ask if that wire requires a positive or negative parking sensor wire. if they say positive, just hook it up to a 12 volt accessory in the car. if they say ground then just ground it.

I'm using this http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshowdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=071-580&ctab=5&#ctabanc to power my lcd and player.  Is this power source the same thing as a +12v accessory?  I'm a newbie here... this doesn't make any sense... positive 12 on the red and postive 12 on the green?

I also don't get the parking break circuit whatever.  How does it creat a switch and how/why would a parking break have power?

the wire needs to be grounded, when the brake switch is closed the wire senses the ground thru the switch.  there is always 12v+ on that wire, but not always a ground

Thanks guys for the grounding advice.  Grounding the screen works!
