Anything larger than 28 AWG should be adequate.

I would just buy some cheap roles of 18-20g multi-stranded in the colors of your choice and go with it.

You'll see these hagning on a peg hook in any automovtive store and in the auto sections in large places like Fred Meyers and Walmart.

I know just enough to be dangerous. VERY dangerous.
