grounding remote start under sunfire dash

Hi everyone, This is my first remote starter install (for my mom), and I'm 90% complete. What is a good place to attach ground under the dash of an '02 sunfire? There is some sort of unpainted metal framework to which the ODBII port appears to be grounded and this framework is also the backbone of the dash itself. Is this a reliable ground source? Should I look under the hood instead? Any help appreciated thank you.

You should always use chassis ground. You can use that I have used it before but if you look in the kick panel you will probably see where they have factory ground wires going to. How do you have 90% of the install done without connecting ground. You must connect ground before any other connections. Hope this helps

Most anything metal under the dash will provide sufficient ground. Use a self tapping screw and screw directly into the metal. Make sure your not going through any wires or fuel lines. Steering column support brackets are a good choice there is generally nothing behind them to hit. Just make sure the ground doesnt wrap around the steering when the wheel is turned. Always test your ground with a test light or DMM to make sure its properly grounded and not isolated from the chassis.

kick panel is where you should be grounding to. Scrape the paint and whatnot obviously A DMM is a beautiful thing.

Always ground everything to a clean and paint free area of the body inside the car. this will eliminate any corrosion from weather. Remember, just because there is metal inside the dash, doesn't mean it is grounded. I have seen far too many wires grounded in the dash and cause a lot of problems.sparky

I've always looked for an existing ground wire that is bolted somewhere to the frame/metal of the car. I'll solder a ring on the wire and use the factory bolt/nut for it then after a good cleaning...·Ï¢årµ§·

The unpainted metal frame under the dash which I mentioned was the ground point I used to test all the other wires actually... So as long as the DMM readings work, a ground spot is good? Is a direct connection to the chassis better/necessary?

if you can get a chassis ground, definately do so (yes it's better). i'd be hard pressed to think you can't get a good ground somewhere under the dash.....
