amp goes into protection mode

Whats up guys, I have 2 10" Kicker cvr's 2 ohm dvc's hooked up to a sony xplod amp putting out 600 watts rms. I built a custom 3 cu. ft. ported box. All wiring is scosche 6ga with a 70 amp fuse. I also have an alpine aftermarket HU puttin gout 3.5 volts ( which I have been told is low.) I have a good ground, it is all sanded down to bare metal and secure on the frame ( a foot away from amp.) A new 70 amp alternator which I know is low but it is the largest that can fit on my vehicle. No light dimming issues, only when my HU volume level is up past 17 or 18 the amp goes into protect mode. Another weird thing my setup does is it only hits notes at around 35 hz and nothing higher. I also have no gotten around to have it professionally tuned. Any help would be awesome, thanks in advance.

How do you have the speakers wired to the amp?

You mean series parallel right?

Yeah, in my car i have one 15' kicker L7 4 ohm DVC wired in parallel for a 2 ohm load on my Kenwood KAC-9103D, my capacitors show 14.9 volts at idle and when i crank it up, after about 5 minutes or so (depending  on the song lol) and it drops the voltage down below 12 volts, and my amp also goes into protection mode, why?Mastermindz

snowb1133; is the Sony amplifier stable at 2 ohms the way you have it wired? For example some cheap 2 channel amplifiers aren't stable down to 2 ohms bridged. If it is, then check to make sure the amp is tuned correctly. Try turning off all bass boosts and turning down the gain and see if it no longer goes into protect. As for the 35Hz issue; that could be caused by several things. First; your sub/enclosure/tuning combination could have a huge peak at 35 Hz resulting in a "one note wonder". Second; you could have a high pass crossover set incorrectly either in the head unit or on the amp causing the problem. Mastermindz; The above could be true for your system as well. Other causes could be improper power/ground wire size; poor ground, or a blown sub.

if your amp goes into protection mode. you will have touching speaker wires or the load on the amp is to muchboxead78
