I know the gain topic has been done to death but I think my situation is a bit different than most of the other posts I have seen on the subject. Ok, I have an Alpine CDA-9886 head unit going to an Arc Audio KEQ5 eq where the signal splits off to my component and subwoofer amps.
My question is how do I set the gains on the eq without an oscilloscope? The manual is absolutely no help whatsoever. I had a similar setup before but with an Audiocontrol Three.1 instead of the KEQ5. Setting gains on that one was easy do to the fact that the Audiocontrol had a clipping indicator LED. The KEQ5 has no such luxury. Any advice would be very much appreciated.

How to set gains Topic. The second to last paragraph in the first post.

What about the gains on the EQ/X-over/line-output converter?
Ooh, good question. The general idea here is to follow the same process but use the gains that are the furthest UPSTREAM (I.E. closest to the headunit) and set all the others to their lowest setting. This will send the hottest signal possible thru all the components. Just remember that anywhere the signal splits you'll have to set them there also. For example, if you have a LOC & an outboard crossover you'll need to set gains on both, starting with the LOC. This can get tricky. Let your ears guide you.
