Hello again, I have ordered a DEI 528T to use with my back up light on my quad.
I want to wire it so that my back up light(i am adding on) will turn on automatically when I am in reverse. The only way to do this is by using the wire coming out of the computer going to the reverse light on the quad's dash. The confusing problem for me is that this wire is not a + feed, its a ground (when using a normal relay, this wire was attached to 85, and 86 was attached to the positive battery terminal).
The reason for needing a delay timer is that when going from any range into park, you have to go through reverse. This triggers the back up light for a split second, kind of annoying.
I have no problems using relay's, and i thought i had it figured out how to wire this DEI 528T, until i realized im totally lost how to wire it when the trigger is a negative/ground wire.

When the trigger is a ground, you just reverse the polarity feed across the coil.
So when there is a positive trigger on 85, you connect a ground on 86.
When you have a negative trigger on 85, you connect 12v to 86.
So you'd wire it like this:
85 - - reverse trigger
86 - 12v
30 - 12v
87 - + reverse light wire
This would be the wiring for a normal spdt relay. I know the 528t has some extra wires and such and I can't seem to locate a copy of the install manual. If you can post one up I'd be able to help you further, or else other members can chime in.

I see what your saying, so on the DEI528T i want
30 to be 12volt
black w/stripe (trigger input) to be the negative wire going to the dash light (trigger wire)
black goes to ground as normal?
red goes to 12volt+ as normal? (assuming this is 30)
And 87 goes to my back up light, and is being fed by the red wire i take it?

Thanks, the timer came in today, I tried a mock up wiring this evening.
Have it wired up like you/I said. Its doing the opposite from what i want LOL. Its acting like a delay to open (delay to turn off the light)
I want a delay to close (delay to turn on the light).
Any ideas?

On your reverse wire, does it normally rest @ 12v and go to ground when in reverse, or does it rest @ ground and go to 12v? The only way I can see what you mentioned happening is if indeed you have a positive trigger. If so, all you need to do is cut the blue looped wire.

The reverse wire that will be triggering it is a closed circuit to ground when in reverse, and a open (dead?) circuit while not in reverse (open, so that it does not turn on the dash light, as this wire is just the ground wire for the dash reverse light).
FYI my mock up i simply would touch the black striped wire to ground to act like the reverse wire.
If i touch it to ground the timer would click and the light would light up without a delay. Don't matter if i left it touching or not, after a few seconds (the delay) the light would turn off/relay would un-click(open). (backwards, i want a delay to turn on the light)
I tried it touching to the reverse wire(same thing happened), but for testing purposes it was easier to just touch the black stripped trigger wire to and from ground than it is to move the shifter.

I honestly have no answer for you lol. You've double checked the wiring? The reverse light is only 2 wires, correct? 12v and ground I'm assuming?
It should not be lighting up at all until the relay is open.

But it have it connected to 87, not 87a. So it lights up when the relay is closed. right?
Like i said its close to being right, its just the delay is in the wrong style. It delays how long it takes for the light to turn off(open the relay), not how long it takes to turn on.
