Just curious how many installers in this section are mecp certified? Do you guys think it's valuable to have? Me personally, I think it's good to have on a resume, but experience is more essential. You need to have a good blend of knowledge AND hands on experience to do this job. Knowledge is definitely key, tho. I know we've met people who are decent installers, yet connect everything directly from a diagram with no real grasp as to what's goin on... I've been basic since july and have my advanced test scheduled for this tuesday

Honestly, i think it's not all that. I was but not anymore. I have been installing 30 years and i can't think of one time it was valuable to me to get a job or on the job. But hey that's just me....Mike M2

well it depends on where you are. for example.

in canada, MECP isnt much on paper. its just a bonus in a way to have. most shops look for AEAT (automotive electrical Accessory Technicians) (310k) for the province of ontario.

In my opinion, its good to have.

Sure its nice and helps for employment at the box stores...Also it shows you trying to do whatever you can to gain knowledge in your field(MECP being one of the most commonly known certification programs) and can be presented that way too...! Hands on is for sure the best way...! I remember thinking "why are we learning about protons,electrons at Mobile Dynamics"...! Mobile Dynamics was always big on saying they are there to weed out the old dog installers...who can install things,but dont know how/why it works...! Also classes in electrical theory.sound,etc...all this is beneficial...!  So YES...It does help...!M.E.C.P & First-Class

It definitely helps, it looks good on paper etc. It's something to make our field look more "legitimate" to consumers and others. As opposed to just radio installers, and such. Honestly most of the installers who bash MECP are the ones who failed. Literally all of the installers i've met who bash MECP certification have all failed the basic test.A DMM is a beautiful thing.
