Ok i am installing a push button start in my car its a lexus is200 the switch is out of a IS220 trying to keep it looking as standard as possible and want to mimic the effects the switch has in the late spec car.
what i want the switch to do it
1st push activates acc
2nd push activates IGN
3rd push/hold runs the starter motor till i release once released the 1st 2 stay active
4th push turns the car ign off leaving acc on
5th push removes all existing connections and disables the button
the switch has 2 output wires 1 has resistance when pressed the other is a straight connection.
im thinking a decade counter possibly does anyone know a circuit that will do this im happy to build up the circuit and have no issues with components just been out the game for 15years. All relays will be run externally away from the circuit as they require 12v and the circuit will more than likely need know more than 6v
any help greatly appreciated

i found a link on a different forum using a decade counter now and built the circuit but this circuit requires a SPDT switch the switch i have is a SPST so is of no use plus even with a SPDT switch its playing up a bit seems unstable i will be re checking everything again just in case
so wondered if anyone else had a different circuit..

So connect an spdt relay to your switch and use the circuit, or have your switch imitate the circuit voltage requirements - depending on the circuit.

i tried it with a relay but it gave a bounce on the inputs so the decade cycled to quick and missed a stage. also the circuit that was designed was using a 4017n i can only get from my suppliers here a 4017bp i don't believe it will make a difference but it could also be a cause of the trouble i am having i will upload a screen print of the designed circuit from yenka later if this will help...
the circuit i have should do the trick but at the moment its playing silly buggers

So there is no debounce?
Maybe just a resistor and small cap is enough...
Just about all switches (contacts) bounce - practically all switched electronic circuits need a debounce circuit....

Sounds like a painful process to start the car - push push push and hold.

I do believe that if you get in the car, put your foot on the brake, then push and release the button the car will start so your method isn't exactly identical.  Then you have to push the button twice to shut all the electronics off? 

Your best bet would be a programmable controller that could incorporate safety and security in to the controller.  IE - if the brake is pushed in cycle through IGN and ACC but if the brake is depressed start the car.  The ACC could be left on until a timer times out or until the door opens - being required to push the button to shut the ACC off will get really old and will kill your battery the first time someone else drives the car and doen't think to push the button a 37th time to make sure everything is off.

I've got a video up on # of the system I made for my G35 - it is completely aftermarket (minus the OEM Nissan button) but 100% mimics factory operation - no uncessasary extra button presses!
