Your assumption is good, I am new with this. I have tried press/release, press/hold, button 1. I get the same 1.5 sec. chirp that I get when I use 8. I will try 7 and see if it works. I'm not sure how long a normal confirmation chirp is, but I'm guessing my chirp is longer. I only get one chirp about 1 second after I hold in the button. I don't get any other chirp from pressing the remote button.I will respond back after I've tried 7, and 1 again. I'll also check Directed.com.  Much thanks.

Open  door, turn key on, press, release, press&hold, siren chirps one time,  Press TX button siren goes CHRRRRUUURRRRIP.  Release button, turn key off.  Test remote

What is the date code on that module?  The two little dials stamped into the plastic on the back of the module.

Actually I've been using DEI stuff since '02. Since then every item I've worked with has been 1 press to program default settings. It's only been really old stuff that I've seen have a different programming step. Sorry for what your insinuating as my "inexperience". Didnt me to offend a vet like yourself T&T

on a side note Step 8 is the option for default transmitter configuration on the 553t. If your system is locked you need to get ahold of a Bitwriter to unlock it. Also, what is the model # of the remote? There are 2 different date codes on the 553t and you may have the wrong remote. If the date code is 7H-8B you should have a 485M or a 491C. If the date code is 9B or higher you should have a 474T, 473T or 471C

I will check the date code for the unit. I actually have both remotes 474t and 485m. I have tried all the methods that everyone has suggested with both remotes, always with the same result. I get a 1.5 second alarm when I hold the button in, but nothing after that from either remote. If the system is locked, where could I get a bitwriter? Are they special for this unit?

This problem was solved by a bit writer. The system was locked. The bit writer unlocked the system and then the programming of the 8 presses did the job. Thanks for everyone's suggestions.
