identify this starter

Hey there all you installer gurus (and home installers, and anyone else who might have some help).

I bought a nice minivan second hand not too long ago. All the mechanics are done, and now I'm working on the "fun" stuff. I noticed an antenna over the morror (the T shaped style with one arm each way - pretty standard) so I went hunting. Under the dash, behind the kneeplate was a nicely installed remote starter. No remote. Problem is, there is not a single marking on this thing to give me a clue as to what make or model it is. I cracked it open, and the PCB markings are even less helpful. (ie. "Component Side" and "Solder Side")

I've spent about 4 hours staring at google images looking at every remote starter picture I coudl find, and nothing comes close. Hopefully, someone has seen one of these, and knows what make / model it is, so I can get myself a book on it, and a remote for it.

In this image, you can see the top of the unit.

Another top view. Standard Bic style pen is there for size reference. Label reads: "Units marked with a RED DOT on the case have a 0.25 second crank cycle of a second. Use for lumina and transport type of cars. Also some GM and Ford cars as well as some Hondas". Yes, it is typed with the caps and mis-wordings just as I have typed it.  Note it has an RCA style antenna port, and the 6 wire harness on the top of the unit. This harness has much heavier guage wie than yoru typical hook up wire.

Hope that is enough info for someone to recognize the thing, and maybe I can get it hooked up - It sure would be nice to have that keyless entry button, and a remote start feature up here in Canada. Hot days in the summer crest a hundred degrees F. and cold days can drop to 20 below... (obviously, hot in summer, cold in winter)  So cranking on the heat or AC before stepping in is REALLY nice.

open up the unit and look for any serial numbers inside.

you might have better luck just replacing the unit with one that comes with remotes.

where abouts are you in ontario?

Nothing inside, other than standards compliance numbers, and as I mentioned in the post, the markings "component side" and "solder side".

I could easily replace it, yes, but since this one is already installed (quite well I might add -  looks to be a professional job with the wires well routed, cable ties, and a nice neat job) I figured I'd give it a shot and see if the chassis design triggers anyone's memory.

As for location, I'm near a small town called Markdale, ON. If you Google it, you will need to zoom in REAL close ;)

its time to take the antenna off the windshield, open it up and look for the FCC ID. google the ID and it will tell you a manufacture.

from there its all about finding the specific model. I would help you but youre 2 hours away ahah. Im in Milton

heh - being a computer tech of some 20 years experience, the FCC ID was also a target, but I could not find that either.

The antenna housing was easily opened, simply pull up. Inside was the feed wire, a couple solder dots, I believe it was a few resistors (or caps?) and the two antenna leads heading out. No PCB of any sort, no markings or anything on the angtenna housing, nothing.

I'm out of town this week, and will give it the week. If nothing comes up, and nobody who has maybe spent 20 years in the mobile electronics field, and has seen it, recognizes the unit, I'll start watching Canadian Tire for a sale. Maybe they'll put something on sale just before the HST comes in :)

the price of the crappy tire unit, when on sale, you can get a compustar 1 way and you will BEYOND happy.

i have done a few prostart units, they are not bad but i had one or two with bad antennas. when you had it open, was there a sticker with "OK xx" xx is either 9, 11, or 10. if its those, its a DEI product.

No OK sticker of any sort.

I opened the starter again, and the only markings on the PCB were "Camden 1296" on the sodler side of the PCB, and on the component side:

Camden 1296 cameup empty on a google search. The SP 94-V-0 came up as a standards compliance tag for the PCB itself - non-unique in any respect.

I was hoping not to have to install a new starter since this one was so neatly installed, and all the wires have already been traced and hooked up. Pair of relays nicely taped to the harness and everything. It'll be a huge job to trace each wire that is there, and then splice them to a new starter, and I had hoped that someone in the industry woudl have recognized the unit as it appears to have a unique layout with the power and antenna connectors on the top of the brain, instead of in the ends.

Oh well, I appreciate all the help, and advice.
