I was wondering if it is still a good idea to upgrade the big three even if you don't have a system. I just sold my car and my entire audio system, and I currently only have a deck installed in my new car. I will eventually put a system in the car later on, but would it hurt to upgrade the big three in the meantime?
Also, regarding the wire from the engine block to the chassis, is it best to make the connection of the engine at the bolts of the alternator? And should the other side of this wire be connected at the same chassis point as the (-)battery to chassis, or should I find a new chassis point?
I would appreciate any feedback, Thanks.

The Big-3 is always good. ...Or rather "never wasted".
It cannot do harm other than perhaps warranties which is why "adding new cables elsewhere" is often advised.
The only negative (pun intended) to the above "additions" is if complication arises from ground/earth loops....
As to whether "from alt bracket or engine" etc....
Although engine block and alternator bracket resistances should be totally negligible to cable resistances (hence "where" doesn't matter), there may be inter- alternator-chassis - bracket - block resistances. Hence the more direct the better...
But does that set up current loops?
I reckon convenience and simplicity first.
A voltmeter can measure voltage drops (from alt-bracket-block-cable-body etc).
And the ear will measure ground loops.
You then solve for each.
(Else attach ground from alternator chassis to amp; to batt-, etc...)
