today i was working on a 97' grand marquees and the customer had tole me he has a wirieng harness adatpter but it does not plug in correctly. soo i looked at it and i noticed tat there was a tag on the smaller plug (speaker wires) and it said ford along with the date of Mfg. 1996.. so then i pulled up a 1996 wiriing diagram for a few different fords and none of them matched up with the colors in the car. what should i do to find out which speaker is which and what the polarity is?

Carry the radio into your local stereo shop so they can get you the right harness.

I think he has an amplified system.  Is the plug in question a square plug with a metal shield most of the way around it?  If so, do not cut it off.  Try and get the right harness.

Of course the above will help you only if you have not cut the end off of the wire.
