ok, this is a hefty problem, so i will start with the facts:
99 nissan sentra
kenwood KDC-HD545U
2 new speakers, cheapo's
2 factory speakers, cracked??
I had a doodiety old Dual head unit that shorted out often, so i replaced it with the kenwood, the kenwood now shorts out when the volume is up at a medium level, i had thought 3 of the 4 car speakers to be cracked, so i replaced the rear 2 and have bought a new pair for the front doors also, just havent installed them yet.
i tested the new speakers by fading the sound to them only, sounded nice, but still had same problem. so the problem isnt likely to be the speakers.
i wired the harness myself using connectors from radio shack, everything matches up, only other question is if i am supposed to connect the ground from the radio to the amp ground on the harness.
any help would be appreciated! any more info needed feel free to ask!
thanks,
Mike

Connect the ground to chassis.  Nissans don't have a ground on the factory side of the harness.  if you ground your radio with an O-ring where you screw your radio to secure it to the factory bracket or to where the brackets secure the radio to the car you should be OK.

The only ground your radio sees right now is through the antenna, and it's not a good enough ground.  The reason your radio is shutting off is because of your ground issue.
