using a remote starter to control a winch

A customer of ours does some extreme 4x4ing.  He has 150' of line on his winch and wishes to be able to

use a remote starter to control the winch.  The functionality he's looking for is to be able to winch in at the

press of a button, and upon the button being lifted, the winch stop operation.  Visa versa for winch out.

All the remote starters i've looked at have a latch/unlatch capability with pressing the button, but none

support an output upon button lift.  As timing is crucial for what he is doing, and sometimes i've seen

button presses not register with a remote starter, having the brain unlatch the relay when no signal is

seen is very important.

You don't need a Remote Start, just an alarm, most decent brands, DEI, Compustar A/Vox etc have AUX outputs, you can use these plus relays.

And the wiring will be exactly the same as the in the relay section on this site, adding door actuators, though instead of lock and unlock signals from the alarm you will be using aux outputs.

i would go and buy a proper wireless remote setup designed for winches. google will be your friend on finding such a setup. if he is really that extreme in his 4 wheeling and has spent the money to upgrade his vehicle and add a winch then the small money to do this the right way would be a wise investment. Also he may want to look into a wired in cab control as well again info is plentiful with a little searching on the web.
