bridging loads

hi all! i'm looking at my buddy's jenson 300hlx power amp as possibly liking it for myself. but at age 55 after 40 years of guitar playing, building and cabinet wiring both hifi and performance. what i don't get is that on the front the 300hlx says 300 watts bridgeable, but on theback application sticker it says 200 watts bridhged into 4 ohms mono, fair enough, but then under that is a warning not to bridge it into 2 ohms mono. so i don't understand where the 300 watts bridgeable comes in? anybody? what i was taught waaayy back in 1972 was that  hundred watts into 8 ohms becomes 2oo watts into 4 and logically enough 400 watts into 2, but i'm sure that's just an off the cuff estimation of how loud it will sound to the average human being and not an exact cut and dried table. yet, the above question i ask still stands.

i would imagine the admonishment concerning 2 ohms is in relation to the amp backing up power with no where to go and causing the overheat cutoff to activate, yes?

still then, what do the mean 300 watts bridgeable?

Jensen ratings cannot be trusted and are mainly for marketing purposes.  IMO it would be best to not use their equipment.  Overloading an amp by placing too low a load on it (2-ohms in this case) can cause the output devices to burn up due to excessive current flow, so in a properly designed amp a fuse will blow or a safety circuit will activate first.Support the12volt.com

The 300 watts is the ILS rating.  It does 300 watts If Lightning Strikes at the same time they are testing the output level. 

Chances are somewhere it says 200 Watts RMS into a 4 ohm bridged load.  Then it says 300 watts Peak power into a 4 ohm bridged load.  That is probably where they get the 300 from.

The fellow above said to view the 300 w. notation as a 'peak power. I don't think so since it is 200RMS bridged into4 ohms.If it were 300 peak we'd be talking about 150 RMS NOT 200. i AGREE WITH HIS ESTIMATION OF jENSON'S ADVERTISING AND MARKETING. bUT i'VE USED SEVERAL OF THEIR SMALLER AMPS OVER THE YEARS AND GOTTEN FINE PERFORMANCE THROUGH THE 6X9s  Sorry for the caps everyone. i am not shouting. it's just that as a result of a severe stroke 6 years ago i have only one index finger to type with, and it spazzes out on me hitting the caps lock now and then.
