Hello all,

I need to power a usb hub in my car. Now if I understand correctly, each port can have a max of 500ma, and the hub has 4 ports so it would draw a max of 2A each hub and right now I have two hubs that I'll be using in my car.

So, what can I use to go from 12v to 5v but that supplies 2A or 4A of power? I'd like to daisy chain the power of the hubs so it runs off one cable ... but if I had to I could run multiple power lines to the hubs.

A 7805 is good for 1A, buy as many as you need to exceed the current capacity. Then, mount all the heat sinks to a nice metal spot somewhere in the car because they will get HOT pulling that much current though them and you can use the car as a heat sink. If you need 4A of current I would get at least 6 of them.

I just bought a plug-in one at the parts place, disassembled it and connected it to 12 volts, all done!
