Hello all,
I have a sony stereo i installed in my jeep and everything was fine... every once in awhile i hit a bump and it turns off then back on... no problem probably a loose wire or something...
anyways when pulling it all apart i noticed that the stereo chassis (outside of the stereo) has a positive voltage, meaning i think it was contacting the side of the jeep and shorting out...
I ran a multimeter on it and discovered it has a 12v positive charge on the outside....
Should a stereo have a positive voltage on the outside of it?
TIA

12 volts on the chassis of a radio means that the radio has lost it's ground connection.  If the radio's ground wire is connected to a known good ground, there could be an open trace on the ground wire connection.  If this is the case, you can ground the chassis of the radio via the bolt hole in the back center of the radio.
