switched power in 2004 chev avalanche?

Hello, Looking for a switched power source in a 2004 chevy Avalnache. I had originally tapped directly into the fuse box, but im looking for something a little more permanent and safe. I have tried the cig lighters and they didnt work. Also tried tapping into the factory harness and that didnt work. Truck does have the bose system, but that has all been removed by a previous shop. Thanks

There is a PINK wire at the ignition harness that will do. You need to remove the lower driver side knee bolster and there is a metal plate that needs to be removed as well. Once you remove this, you will see the ignition wires. Jeff

Would this be the same pink wire used to tap in the PAC steering wheel control?

The one im talking about goes through the firewall.......Im not sure how comfortable i am going into the steering column.

Steering Column is easy, once you remove the lower dash and that steel plate that VelocityMotors mentioned everything is pretty easy to get to. Bonus: You'll have plenty of room to test all your wires before making any connections.

 at the MBEC (Mid Bussed Electrical Center) which is underneath the dash to the left of the steering column.  Upper left hand connector  labeled SEO on the cover.  Has two battery feeds, one accessory, one ignition and a ground.  Fuses in fusepanels labeled beginning with SEO (figure that) . 

SEO B2 ... 30A, SEO B1 ... 15A, SEO IGN ...10A, SEO ACCY ... 15A.

a .110 female tab terminal(s) will fit on the male tab terminal(s) that are exposed.  you can route the wiring upwards from beneath to cover to keep the drivers feet from contact.

2 7mm screws and 4 10mm bolts are you have all the acc or ignition you could ever want. pink and white are ignition (stays live during crank) brown and orange are accessories ( not live during crank) whatever you do, FUSE THE WIRE!!
