passslock 2 trouble

I installed a Prostart 3471 remote start in a 1998 Chevy Pickup some time ago (5 weeks). I used an Autostart bypass (PATSK-600). The vehicle owner told me today that the truck is sometimes not starting with the key. It starts, runs briefly, flashes security light, then shuts down. This is obviously a bypass issue. What should I look for, because the passlock wires are just going through the bypass module when you start with the key, right? I was also wondering if anybody has used a relay setup to only break the passlock wires and run them through the bypass only during R/S? This way if there was an issue with the bypass, you would not lose the ability to start with the key. Thanks in advance for any response. Keith

on older vehicles like that i usually just solder in a resistor across the passlock wires for a permenant bypass,with the owners permission of course.

On some of those older gm products, the igntion barrels tend to wear and need to be replaced cause the resistance is different. I like the permanent fix with the resistor however then no theft protection. (Not that passlock2 provides any protection to even a halfassed 13yr old thief anyway)

I agree with saskpuller, the Passlock II system is a joke. A single relay and the resistor is a simple bypass for this system but if the ignition barrel is bad ( which it sounds like it is ), then you can permanently bypass it with the permission from the owner or get the owner of the truck to buy a new barrel.Jeff

I did actually speak with the owner about a permanent bypass, because on Saturday I put the data wire back together and it still happened to him.      He also neglected to tell me before the install that the truck would sometimes turn on the security light, but still run. Is this even possible? I wouldn't know, I've never owned a vehicle with passlock. So now of course he blames this "new" problem on the R/S install.      I've never done a permanent bypass but I know how to do it. My only concern with that is I have read that sometimes with colder and warmer temps, the permanent bypass will sometimes not hit the resistance properly. But I guess if that were to happen, he could do the relearn procedure?Keith

easy fix if the customer cool with diabling the pass loc. Remove your bypass module Connect the car side of the yellow passloc wire to any resistor and the black passloc wire to the other side of the resistor. Cut the key side of the yellow passloc wire and leave disconnected. Attempt to start the truck with the key it will faill. Turn key off then on and leave on for aprox 10 minuts untill security light stops flashing. When it stops turn off key then try to start. If it starts you are all set if not it ma take up to 3 time to reset the passloc to learn the new resitor valeue. This will fix your customers ingnition problem.

It's been a while since I've heard from the owner of this truck, but late last week he called me and said it was not starting more often. (why does this guy think this is my problem?) So I tell him I will do a permanent bypass by wiring in a resistor. I do that, make the truck learn the new resistor, all is well. Test remote start...all good. As I'm putting everything back together and cleaning up truck is running under R/S. It runs out of time and shuts off. I go to start it again and SECURITY flashing. wth?? So after another re-learn it fires up but only once. The next start it won't go. What else goes wrong with these things that would be causing this? The only "fix" I could give him was to do another re-learn of the ignition switch, take out the resistor but I ran the yellow through a toggle switch, so once the truck starts, I flick the switch to break the yellow wire. This leaves SECURITY on steady but the truck always starts.Keith

The cylinder may be so bad that it gave you a bad resistor reading. Just go with breaking the yellow wire. Thats the way i always do it.
