Has anybody successfully done a remote starter in a BMW or AUDI with electronic ignition without using Fortins INT-VW* or INT-BMW* modules?
Im guessing all the module does is hook up wires directly to the contacts INSIDE the ignition switch?

The INT-VW2 and INT-VW3 connect inside the ignition tumbler. A modified key barrel can be provided in advance, or the key barrel can be sent to Fortin for modification. The key barrel is swappable between vehicles so no special (re)coding is required on the vehicle when a pre-modified barrel is used.
The INT-BMW1 has 2 ribbon cables and simply plugs in series on the back of the Push-to-start switch. Unplug the OEM ribbon cable and plug the INT-BMW1 to the back of the switch, and plug the OEM ribbon cable to the INT-BMW1.
All of these units require the support of the Fortin 2-way data-link protocol. They cannot be hard-wired with non-supporting remote-starters. This is mandatory due to strict timing requirements necessary to control the internal logic of the tumbler/button.
