I recently picked up a Python 1401 keyless entry and remote start unit for my 87 RX7 and am having trouble getting it working correctly.
I searched around this forum and found that the remote start wires were incorrect, so I have written down below how they are to be wired up to the car (note that these are not yet wired in).
Before I re-connect the remote start wires, could someone could double check my wiring and provide their input as to how it's wired? It would be greatly appreciated.
Main Harness (12 pin):
1- Trunk release output- DISCONNECTED (until my hatch actuators and relay arrive)
2- Constant 12v input- connected to battery
3- Horn honk output- connected to horn wire on column (tested, works)
4- Light flash insolation- DISCONNECTED
5- Ground- grounded to chassis
6- (+) door trigger input- DISCONNECTED
7- Factory horn input- DISCONNECTED
8- (-) door trigger input- DISCONNECTED
9- Dome light input- DISCONNECTED
10- Turbo timer input- DISCONNECTED
11- Parking light output- DISCONNECTED for now until I figure the factory switch out
12- Ground when armed output- DISCONNECTED
Door Lock (3 pin):
1- Unlock output- +lock, - unlock
2- empty
3- Lock output- -lock, + unlock
H2 Harness (18 pin):
1- Factory alarm disarm- DISCONNECTED
2- Aux 4- DISCONNECTED
3- Factory alarm arm- DISCONNECTED
4- Aux 2- DISCONNECTED
5- Aux 3- DISCONNECTED
6- Aux 1- DISCONNECTED
7- Diesel wait to start- DISCONNECTED
8- empty
9- Tach input- tapped into (-) on coil
10- Status output- DISCONNECTED
11- Flex relay- DISCONNECTED
12- Accessory output- DISCONNECTED
13- Starter output- DISCONNECTED
14- Ignition 1 output- DISCONNECTED
15- Hood pin input- connected with provided sensor (tested, works)
16- 2nd status/ rear defog- DISCONNECTED
17- (+) brake shutdown input- tapped into (+) when brake is depressed
18- Neutral safety input- grounded
Remote Start (8 pin):
1- Ignition input- on wire that sends (+) to ECU/ etc from ignition
2- Fused ignition 2- DISCONNECTED
3- Accessory Output- DISCONNECTED
4- Starter Output- on wire that sends (+) to starter from ignition
5- Fused ignition 1- gets constant 12v from ignition
6- Ignition 2/ flex relay- DISCONNECTED
7- Flex relay input- DISCONNECTED
8- Fused accessory/ starter input- gets constant 12v from ignition
The IVU is hooked up and the toggle switch is set to ON. I have also set the unit to automatic mode (3-1-2).
My questions:
1- What would cause the unit to not give the door lock actuators any juice? (I programmed MTS to Automatic like the Viper install manual said to do if the door trigger input was disconnected.) I tested the unit right at the pins and got no power coming out at all.
2- What is a flex relay and what is it used for?

I am not sure about your first question, but I can answer the second one for you. A flex relay can be used as either a second starter, second accessory, or second ignition wire. I have a viper 5901 on my 09 speed 3, and I had to use the flex relay to power up my second accessory wire which provides power the the climate control system. The first accessory wire that I had hooked up only powered up my radio and cigarette lighter port, so I needed the extra accessory wire to turn on my a/c or heater.

Your door lock actuators, do they have their own timer relay?
If not you will need a pair of relays or a DEI451L to plug into your white door lock 3 pin socket.
Remote start 8 pin. Connect ALL the fused wires to the battery and give me a list of the wires at the ignition and what each does please.

So the Python unit's blue/ green wires don't give power to the actuators, but need to be hooked up through relays? The door lock actuators are the regular universal ones all over eBay, with the flip-flip lock/ unlock. I'm guessing they do not have a timer relay. The car came without them from the factory, and I had them in my old RX7 with a cheap keyless entry unit.
What would make the unit not even send power through those wires, though (the blue/ green lock ones)? I tested the pins off of the unit with a multimeter and there is no current coming off whatsoever (This is with the car already in MTS mode).
I will connect the fused wires off of the 8 pin connector to the battery after work. Even the ignition 2 fused wire, though? I know that the RX7 ignition only needs one (+) on a certain ignition wire to power the whole car. The starter is the same way, just needs 1 (+) wire. I will let you know the colors of all the wires after work as well.
Thank you for the help howie II. Sorry if I sound like I'm challenging you or your advice, I'm just trying to understand everything myself as I do everything.

If you already connected the blue and green from the Python to your lock motor wires, you might have blown out it's lock control.
You must use the 451 or 2 relays.

I understand now, I will order the 451 part soon. When I saw that it was only $10 I had a sigh of relief. Hopefully this fixes the problem and I didn't fry anything.
I'll have an update on the remote start soon. Thanks again.

Another question, on the DEI 451L part, could it be any DEI 451 part or does it have the be the DEI 451L part? I ask because there are quite a few DEI 451M parts on eBay.

Or assume the first poster doesn't have a working knowledge of relays.
Did you sort out your temp gauge?
