i have a 2003 chevy malibu and i just bought a JVC radio for it. the guys at best buy said i need a wiring harness to install it but i put a sony radio into my brothers 95 jeep a few years ago without one, do i really need one or can i just cut the wires and connect them to the new radio? also the antenna wire doesnt fit into the back of the new radio, what should i do to make it fit?

Its easier if you use the harness because then its just plug and play..also if in the future you want to replace the radio...u already have the harness so its less of a hassle to change it. If you really know what your doing..then don't use the harness...but why would you want to tear up your harness? I wouldn't do that unless the harness doesn't exist for the car...in your case it does..

Harness = an adapter that will plug into the plug that you removed from the back of the OEM radio. It has about 8 inches of wire, plus the box that contains the new dinger and the relay for switched power. You do not have to run any wires.

the one the best buy guy tried to sell me was $100 and had like 20ft for each wire.

there is something with wires that came in the box with the radio that i bought with only a short amount of wires to it and it plugs into the radio and the other ends of the wires have nothing connected to it. is that the wire your talking about?

No...thats the radio harness. the harness you need has a module to keep the factory chime so that if you leave your door open or whatever it will warn you...you dont need that one...they sell you that one because its the most convenient..i sell it here in my store for 15 dollars the one you need. go to a regular mom and pop shop and ask for the Chevy/Pontiac/Toyota 2000-03,MAD GWH-416..thats the chevy harness..

so i get the "Chevy/Pontiac/Toyota 2000-03,MAD GWH-416" and plug that into the wire already connected to the car and then connect the ends of those wires to the ends of the wires that came with the radio, and thats it?

you'll also have to run a switched 12volt wire from you ignition harness.
That's probably why best buy offered you the 100 dollar harness. it's because most diyers are too stupid to read the piece of paper that comes with the 70-2003 harness, and come back saying it's the wrong harness.
