poor reception

I recently,  bought an o1 Pontiac Graand Am,  with monsoon system,  i can only get good reception when the car is not running,  as soon as i start the car it gets poor again,  the closer i get to the big city the better it gets,  where do i begin???

OEM productis probably defective, even though the amp is in the trunk rear drivers side the antenna is still connected behind the radio, you can check the connection behind the radio first as well as the fuses that are related power amp, radio, etc.., but replacing the deck is your best solution with an amp bypass.

i discovered this morning on my way into work that when the fan is on hi it is very static,  and if i turn it off it clears it up??

You have a bad grounding issue. It's either on the antenna, or the radio ground is going bad. More than likely the antenna though. Try replacing it, or temporarily plugging in a test antenna.

Yep, i was just about to say ground when i noticed the last post hit it. It is the antenna ground out near the mounting base.
